STRESS ANALYSIS OF A TWO DIMENSIONAL INHOMOGENEOUS SOIL LAYER WITH ARBITRARILY VARYING ELASTIC PROPERTIES

  • The two dimensional problem of a half-plane with an inhomogeneous soil layer subjected to a concentrated line load is solved. The inhomogeneous soil layer with arbitrarily varying elastic properties is modeled as a linear multi-layered medium. Then the solution is used as a fundamental solution to solve the contact of a rigid body on the soil surface. The contact force and sedimentation are calculated, and the effects of the elastic modulus and Poisson’s ratio on the results are discussed.
