STUDY ON SHEAR BEHAVIOUR OF REINFORCED CONCRETE BEAMS WRAPPED WITH GFRP PLATE

  • This paper presented a new type of GFRP-RC hybrid beam. It is comprised of a RC beam wrapped with GFRP pultruded profile which provides tensile reinforcement, permanent formwork, and corrosion resistance for the system. The mechanical properties and failure modes of the hybrid beams and the control RC beams were investigated based on an experimental study. Test results showed that reinforced concrete beams wrapped with GFRP plate provide significant increase in shear capacity when compared to control RC beams. The shear capacity for tested beams was analyzed, and the computed values agreed well with the tested values.
