THE MODEL TEST OF WASTE TIRE REINFORCED SLOPE

  • Waste tires can be used for soil reinforcement, providing high quality reinforcement at low prices with the advantage of reducing the environmental waste disposal costs. The stress, deformation characteristics and influence factors are discussed through a model test. Tire reinforcement has a significant effect on the evolution of the stress field in a slope. When the embankment model fails, the reinforced slope has little plastic flow and the stresses applied do not reduce rapidly. This type of reinforcement can significantly reduce the vertical additional stresses on backfill soil. Reinforced tires have a significant impact on reducing the settlement of an embankment, which is more obvious under larger loads. The vertical distance between the top reinforcement layer and the loading plate was also investigated, and it is correlated with the additional stress increase and playing an important role in reducing the settlement, especially in less initially dense soil. The failure modes of reinforced and unreinforced slopes are quite different, especially on the shear outlet position of the slope, again, influenced by the location of the top reinforcement layer.
