Wind-induced vibration characteristics of box suspender

  • This paper discusses the aerodynamic performance of box suspender based on wind tunnel experiments, and the effect of turbulence flow on the aerodynamic characteristics of suspender is further studied. The suspenders with rectangular section could lead to vortex resonance and galloping instability, and the depth-to-width ratios have significant impact on vortex-induced vibrations but little effect on galloping. Turbulence flow mainly affects the onset wind speed and lock-in range of vortex resonance, but the turbulence effects on aerodynamic characteristics of box suspender are not always beneficial. The results of corresponding numerical simulation show that turbulent flow changes the Strouhal numbers and the force of vortex shedding to affect the vortex resonance characteristics of box suspenders.
